Casting molds are used for the preparation of the so-called "pearl", which is later submitted to XRF (x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy) analysis, a non-destructive analysis that reveals the composition of a sample through X-ray fluorescence. The pearl is used because of its homogeneity, which guarantees greater analysis accuracy and therefore, of the results obtained, and because it allows comparable samples.
