This is an improved form comprising a coil of 1000 number of turns of copper wire wound on an aluminum metal ring (150 mm dia.) A stop limiting rotation to 0 180 of the ring is provided with the help of the spring. The cradle supporting the coil of cast non-magnetic alloy 200 x 210 x 115 mm high may be placed either on its base or side so that the axis of rotation of the coil is either horizontal or vertical. Terminals for connections are mounted on the cradle supporting blocks. The earth inductor is a coil that is rotated through 180-deg through the earth's magnetic field. The voltage induced voltage is measured as a function of time, the area under the curve is calculated. This can be used to calculate the magnetic field. The coil can be positioned to measure the horizontal, vertical or total magnetic field B. Use the dip needle to find the angle of inclination of the earth's magnetic field. This should be 70-deg for Bellingham. Position the coil frame such that it is perpendicular to this axis. Rotate the coil in the frame until it clicks into place.
